Putnam/Northern Westchester Boces Workshop Held In Yorktown

The workshop focused on integrating the state’s new social studies framework with Common Core standards, and getting young children interested in social studies.

Teachers whose school districts subscribe to the SSELA curriculum learned how to access books, videos, lesson plans, and other important resources.

The Westchester communities from which teachers came were Mamaroneck, Rye City and White Plains.

Mirla Morrison, a former Ossining social studies teacher and department chair who led the development of the SSELA curriculum, taught the implementation workshop.

First-grade students whose schools subscribe to the curriculum will learn about “My Family and Other Families, Now and Long Ago” in their social studies classes.
