Shari Gay Lampert, 57, of 8 Old Round Hill Lane, was charged Thursday with operating a motor vehicle without an interlock ignition device. It is a breathalyzer for an individual's vehicle for people who have been convicted of driving while under the influence. The driver has to blow into a mouthpiece on the device before starting the vehicle. She was also charged with evading responsibility after allegedly damaging a parked vehicle and driving away.
Last year Lampert was given a one-year suspended jail sentence after pleading guilty to stealing nearly $3,000 from her maid after the woman broke a fixture in Lampert’s $7 million back-country mansion in 2014. She also pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence.
Police said that around 7 p.m. Thursday they were called to Enterprise Rent-A-Car for a driver asleep behind the wheel of a rental car. The vehicle left before police arrived but not before striking a parked, unoccupied vehicle on Edgewood Avenue, according to police.
Police quickly confirmed the driver's ID and went to 8 Old Round Hill Lane where they stopped the vehicle and arrested Lampert.
She was released on a promise to appear in court on Sept. 1.
On June 28, 2014, an enraged Lampert grabbed her maid's car keys to open her vehicle and took $3,000 in cash from her maid after finding out the woman had broken a bathroom countertop inside her 12,455-square foot mansion.
